Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Aviation leaders, technical experts, and air navigation professionals from across Africa and beyond are convening in Dar es Salaam this week to chart strategies for enhancing the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of air navigation services amid rapid technological advancements.
The two-day forum, organized by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA), has brought together stakeholders from a wide spectrum of the aviation ecosystem, including airlines, aerospace engineers, air safety regulators, communication system specialists, and air navigation service providers.
Speaking during the opening session, TCAA Acting Director General Mr. Daniel Malanga emphasized the urgency for collaborative, cross-sector solutions as the industry navigates increasingly complex technological and operational landscapes.
“As the aviation sector rapidly evolves, this meeting offers a critical opportunity to align on approaches that strengthen air navigation systems,” Mr. Malanga said.
He explained that cooperation between institutions and nations is essential in building safe, efficient, and sustainable airspaces that meet global standards.
He noted that the operational harmony between navigation service providers, airlines, and airport infrastructure remains central to aviation safety, with regulatory oversight provided by authorities like TCAA playing a pivotal role in maintaining compliance and resilience.
TCAA Director of Air Navigation Services, Ms. Flora Alphonce, detailed Tanzania’s continued investments in aviation communication infrastructure, underscoring the government’s commitment to modernizing its air navigation capabilities.
“More than 41 billion Tanzanian shillings have already been allocated to upgrade voice communication systems — a core component in maintaining uninterrupted communication between pilots and air traffic controllers,” Ms. Alphonce said.
These upgrades are crucial in reinforcing the safety and reliability of our airspace operations.
Participants at the forum acknowledged Tanzania’s proactive investments, recognizing the country as a rising hub for aviation safety and technological innovation in Africa.
“Tanzania is emerging as a continental benchmark for aviation technology and safety standards. Its strategic investments are setting new precedents for safe and efficient air navigation services,” said Ms. Stella Mwagi, representing Coastal Aviation.
The Dar es Salaam gathering reflects Tanzania’s broader vision to elevate its aviation sector’s global competitiveness, while reinforcing the resilience of its airspace management systems in line with international best practices.
