Tanzania and China on Tuesday agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation with a focus on infrastructure, trade, and strategic development projects, officials said following a high-level meeting during the China–Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) in Changsha.

Tanzanian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where the two discussed fast-tracking the rehabilitation of the Tanzania–Zambia Railway (TAZARA) and expanding China’s support for large-scale infrastructure and industrial initiatives in Tanzania.

Wang said China would continue to enhance its longstanding ties with Tanzania and work toward implementing key projects. “China is committed to further practical cooperation with Tanzania in line with the historical friendship built by our founding leaders,” he said.

Kombo thanked Beijing for its continued development support and outlined Tanzania’s priorities in areas including agriculture, industrial development, and human capital. He also urged China to simplify export procedures to improve Tanzanian access to the Chinese market.

The two sides also agreed to maintain collaboration on multilateral issues and promote shared interests in international platforms.

The meeting underscores Tanzania’s drive to leverage economic diplomacy to attract investment, boost exports, and develop strategic partnerships under its foreign policy framework.
