The National Library of Tanzania has underscored the importance of officially registering publications related to the country’s mineral resources, calling them a national treasure that must be preserved and protected for the benefit of both current and future generations.

Speaking on June 12, 2025, during a visit to the Ministry of Minerals in Mtumba, Dodoma, Senior Officer Laura Ndomba from the National Library emphasized that publications such as research reports, policy documents, guidelines, statistics, and project summaries carry invaluable knowledge that is crucial to Tanzania’s development and heritage.

“These materials are more than just documents they are a national asset. Registering them through the National Library ensures they are legally protected and accessible for years to come,” said Ms. Ndomba.

She praised the Ministry of Minerals and its affiliated institutions for producing a wide range of technical publications that deepen public understanding of the mining sector and contribute to strategic national planning.

According to the National Library Act, government publications must be registered and deposited with the library to safeguard intellectual property and support national knowledge preservation.

Legal deposit also helps prevent unauthorized use and ensures critical information is available to researchers, policymakers, and the general public.

Asteria Muhozya, Head of Government Communications at the Ministry of Minerals, acknowledged the current gap in registering some of the Ministry’s documents but welcomed the opportunity for improved collaboration.

“Registering our publications with the National Library will strengthen access, legal protection, and public availability of key information especially technical reports and research findings,” Ms. Muhozya noted.

The visit marks the beginning of enhanced cooperation between the Ministry of Minerals and the National Library, aligning with broader government efforts to improve information management and ensure that valuable knowledge is preserved and shared effectively nationwide.
