Dar es salaam – The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has urged the management of JKT Queens to continue nurturing and investing in their young talents to ensure the team performs strongly in the upcoming CECAFA Women's Championship.
JKT Queens, newly crowned champions of the Tanzania Women’s Premier League, will represent the nation in the regional tournament.
Speaking during the official trophy handover ceremony held yesterday at the TFF Technical Centre in Kigamboni, TFF’s Second Vice President, Steven Mguto, expressed optimism about the team’s chances in this year’s CECAFA campaign.
“We want the CECAFA trophy this season. It’s crucial that the club continues to support and develop these players to help them achieve that goal,” Mguto said. “Last season, we fell short. But this year, we believe there is a real opportunity to reach the final—and possibly win it.”
Mguto also praised JKT Queens for their unique status as a team composed entirely of homegrown talent.
“JKT Queens are the only team in the league made up solely of local players, and they’ve triumphed over clubs with professional imports. This proves that Tanzanian talent can compete and win at the highest levels,” he added.
Team captain Anastasia Katunzi echoed similar sentiments, expressing her gratitude following what she described as a challenging season.
“We thank God for this victory. It wasn’t easy especially after our loss to Simba Queens,” Katunzi said.
“The race for the title was tight and remained undecided until the very end. But we stayed focused, and we’re proud to bring the trophy home.”he added
She emphasized that the competitive nature of the league this season will serve as motivation to prepare even more thoroughly for both the CECAFA tournament and the next league campaign.
“This season tested every team. The level of preparation was high across the board. We’ll be working hard to raise our game even further in the coming months,” she said.
JKT Queens’ victory marks a significant milestone in Tanzanian women’s football, as they now prepare to carry the nation’s hopes on the regional stage.
