The government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening health education in the country by continuing to invest in infrastructure development at the Kibaha Education Centre (KEC), a move aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning environment.

Speaking during a working tour of the institution on June 17, 2025, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government, responsible for Health, Professor Tumaini Nagu, commended the Centre for its outstanding contribution to health training and development in Tanzania.

“The government recognizes the critical role that Kibaha Education Centre plays in producing competent health professionals. That is why we are committed to ongoing investment, particularly in upgrading infrastructure at the Kibaha Institute of Health and Allied Sciences,” said Prof Nagu.

She emphasized the importance of aligning academic programs with national development goals and called on the institution to remain a model of excellence in health education.

“I encourage the Centre to maintain its pioneering spirit and to ensure graduates emerge with superior knowledge and skills that set them apart in the job market.”she added

Prof Nagu also urged the academic leadership to introduce demand-driven programs that address current challenges in the health sector.

“Given your strategic location near the Regional Referral Hospital and major highway, this institution has an opportunity to launch short-term training programmes for frontline health workers in collaboration with the Regional Medical Officer,” she noted.

During the visit, Dr Tusekile Solile, Principal of the Kibaha Institute of Health and Allied Sciences, appealed to the government to continue supporting improvements in health training infrastructure.

“Expanding our capacity will enable more Tanzanians to access quality health education and ultimately strengthen our healthcare system,” she said.

The Deputy PS also received a briefing from Mr Anathe Nnko, Acting Director General of KEC, on the Centre’s history, achievements, and current development initiatives.

Prof Nagu toured two newly constructed twin classrooms funded through the Centre’s own revenue, which cost over TSh 100 million.

She also inspected a new computer laboratory under construction, projected to cost more than TSh 80 million upon completion.

The Kibaha Institute of Health and Allied Sciences currently offers diploma programmes in Clinical Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery, as well as short courses for Community Health Workers.

The government’s continued investment in institutions like KEC underscores its broader strategy to expand access to quality health education, build a resilient healthcare workforce, and improve service delivery across the country.
