President Samia Suluhu Hassan has commended the Parliament of Tanzania for its growing contribution to promoting health, unity, and national cohesion through sports initiatives, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said.
Speaking on behalf of the Head of State during the Grand Bunge Bonanza held at John Merlin Secondary School grounds in Dodoma, the Premier underscored that the President values the role of Parliament in inspiring a nationwide culture of physical fitness.
“President Samia recognizes and appreciates the role Parliament is playing in strengthening unity, wellness, and cooperation through sporting activities,” Majaliwa told participants.
“This bonanza aligns with the President’s ongoing campaign encouraging Tanzanians to embrace exercise for better health and productivity.”he added
He noted that sporting activities such as the Grand Bunge Bonanza serve a greater purpose beyond fitness — fostering friendship, mental wellness, and teamwork, which in turn improves effectiveness in daily responsibilities.
The bonanza brought together lawmakers and parliamentary staff in a spirited celebration of sports, featuring football, athletics, tug-of-war, netball and other team events.
Deputy Speaker Mussa Azzan Zungu took the opportunity to commend Speaker Dr. Tulia Ackson for initiating the bonanza, saying it has played a significant role in strengthening camaraderie among MPs. “This is a legacy that will live on, thanks to the Speaker’s vision,” he said.
Bonanza Chairman and MP Festo Sanga noted that the event was born out of Speaker Tulia’s commitment to supporting President Samia’s vision of a healthier, united nation.
“We thank the government for encouraging Tanzanians to engage in sports as a national priority,” Sanga said.
CRDB Bank, one of the key sponsors, reaffirmed its commitment to using sports as a tool for development. CEO Abdulmajid Nsekela said sports are a strategic focus for the bank, not only for health but also as a platform for employment and talent development.
“This bonanza is unique it promotes wellness, unity, and unearths the potential within our communities,” he noted.
The Grand Bunge Bonanza has become a flagship event on Parliament’s calendar, reflecting how sport can bridge leadership, public policy, and citizen engagement in shaping a stronger, healthier Tanzania.
