The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a national weather alert for the next 24 hours, warning of short periods of strong winds expected to reach up to 40 kilometres per hour along the Indian Ocean coastline.
This advisory affects the coastal regions of Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Lindi, Mtwara, and Pwani (including Mafia Isles), as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba.
According to the forecast released at 9:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025, the country will generally experience partly cloudy conditions, isolated thundershowers in some areas, and sunny periods across most regions.
Despite fair weather in the interior, TMA cautioned sea users along the coast to exercise extra vigilance due to expected rough sea conditions.
The Lake Zone covering Kagera, Mara, Geita, Shinyanga, Mwanza, and Simiyu can expect a mix of sunshine and thundershowers in a few areas. Similar weather patterns are forecast for western regions such as Kigoma, Tabora, and Katavi, where conditions will remain partly cloudy with intervals of sunshine.
In central Tanzania, Dodoma and Singida will enjoy generally dry weather, with daytime highs reaching 28°C in Dodoma and lows around 16°C.
Northern highland regions of Arusha, Kilimanjaro, and Manyara will see cooler temperatures, with Arusha expecting a maximum of 22°C and a low of 15°C.
The southern highlands particularly Njombe and Mbeya will remain the coldest regions in the country. Njombe will experience chilly lows of 8°C and a maximum of only 17°C. Mbeya will also record a low of 8°C and a high of 22°C.
In the commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, partly sunny weather is expected with temperatures ranging between 21°C at night and 30°C during the day.
Coastal winds will blow from the southeast at speeds of up to 40km/h, contributing to rough sea conditions.
Sunrise and sunset times vary slightly across regions. For instance, sunrise in Dar es Salaam is expected at 6:34 a.m. and sunset at 6:14 p.m., while in Mbeya, the sun will rise at 7:00 a.m. and set at 6:34 p.m.
Looking ahead, the TMA forecast indicates slight changes in weather patterns on Monday, June 23. The public, particularly coastal communities and marine operators, are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and heed any warnings issued.
