EU Launches Energy Awareness Campaign in Tanzania

By Lookman Miraji

The European Union has launched a new energy awareness campaign in Tanzania, aiming to strengthen its partnership with the East African nation and promote access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy.

The campaign, titled I’ve Got the Power, is designed to showcase how renewable energy solutions are transforming communities, improving livelihoods, and supporting Tanzania’s sustainable development agenda.

It will use real-life stories, short videos, and various media channels including radio, television, and social media to reach diverse audiences across the country.

Tanzanian social media influencers are also participating in the campaign to help amplify its message and demonstrate the positive impact of clean energy on people’s daily lives, income generation, and long-term community development.

Speaking at the launch, EU Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community Christine Grau said the initiative highlights the importance of sustainable energy not only for environmental protection but also for economic growth and social well-being.

“Transitioning to renewable energy is not only about reducing carbon emissions,” Grau said. “It is about building sustainable lives for people, protecting the environment, and strengthening local economies. Through this campaign, we want people to understand the importance of sustainable energy and see how these changes can positively impact both their present and future.”

The campaign reflects the EU’s broader commitment to supporting Tanzania’s energy transition efforts and its role as a key development partner in the region.

The EU continues to provide technical assistance, capacity building, and financial support for renewable energy projects across Tanzania.
