Dar es Salaam is set to host a major regional netball tournament from 2 to 30 July at the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) grounds in Ubungo, according to organisers.
The event is being coordinated by Twende Pamoja na Mama Sports Promotion, under the leadership of Director Mohamed Hajji, in collaboration with the Dar es Salaam Regional Netball Association (CHANEDA).
Speaking on 13 June, Chief Executive Officer of the organising body, Kassim Ahmad, confirmed that preparations are well underway.
He stated that confirmation letters and competition regulations will be distributed to all participating teams on Monday.
To secure a place in the tournament, each team is required to pay a participation fee of TSh 50,000 (approximately $19 USD) within one week.
This, he explained, will give the organising committee sufficient time to finalise logistical arrangements.
Mr Ahmad added that CHANEDA has granted full approval for the event, and official invitation letters will follow shortly.
The tournament is expected to attract wide participation and aims to promote grassroots netball and foster sportsmanship across the region.
Winners of the tournament will receive a top prize of TSh 5 million (about $1,900), with the runner-up taking home TSh 3 million.
The teams finishing third and fourth will be awarded TSh 1.5 million and TSh 500,000 respectively. Individual honours will also be presented, including TSh 200,000 for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), TSh 150,000 for the top scorer, and TSh 100,000 each for the best cheerleading group and the most disciplined team.
