The Attorney General of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hamza S. Johari, has underscored the vital responsibilities of Government Lawyers in the negotiation of contracts involving the Government or its institutions.
Speaking on June 4, 2025, during a training session for Government Lawyers held in Arusha and organized by the Office of the Solicitor General, Johari delivered a presentation on effective strategies for contract negotiation and the importance of integrating legal expertise with business acumen.
In his address, the Attorney General emphasized that Government Lawyers must approach contract negotiations with diligence, professionalism, and a deep sense of patriotism, especially when such agreements involve matters of national interest.
"Given the sensitive nature of contract negotiations, it is imperative that Government Lawyers uphold the highest standards of professionalism and prioritize the interests of the nation at all times," he stated.
Hon. Johari also reaffirmed the commitment of his office to support Government Lawyers by offering timely legal advice and guidance to ensure their work is effective and in line with national priorities.
"The Office of the Attorney General remains fully committed to providing legal support whenever needed. Our shared goal is to ensure that all contract negotiations deliver meaningful value to the Government and the people of Tanzania," he added.
On behalf of the participants, Government Lawyer Ms. Asia Juma expressed appreciation for the insights shared during the training.
She highlighted that the Attorney General’s presentation was not only informative but also instrumental in enhancing their capacity to serve effectively.
“We are sincerely grateful to the Attorney General for his comprehensive presentation. It covered critical issues related to contract negotiations and has greatly enriched our knowledge. I believe this training will significantly improve our performance in the field,” she said.
