The government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to clean and safe water for residents who have voluntarily relocated to the Msomera area in Handeni District.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Water, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ms. Agness Meena said significant efforts are underway to extend water infrastructure to all parts of the settlement, including the construction of livestock water troughs.

"The government is working in phases to ensure sustainable water supply to the area. We are now in the fourth phase of implementation, and the Msomera water dam is in its final stages of construction. The project also includes installation of water storage tanks of various capacities," said Ms. Meena.

RUWASA project supervisor, Engineer Nobert Temba, explained that the project has been designed to ensure reliable water supply for the next 20 years without interruption.

Ms. Meena made the remarks during an inspection visit to the project site, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Water, RUWASA, and representatives from the Msomera community.

The Msomera settlement is part of the government’s broader plan to relocate citizens from ecologically sensitive areas to more sustainable living environments. The provision of essential services like water is seen as key to ensuring the success of the relocation program.
