Kigoma, Tanzania – The Director General of the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), Dr. Jabiri Bakari, has met with licensed communication service providers from Kigoma Region in a strategic meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration and addressing challenges within the communications sector.

The event took place at the Regional Commissioner’s Office hall and brought together providers of broadcasting services radio, television, and online content as well as internet service providers.

The meeting is part of Dr. Bakari’s ongoing national engagement initiative, which involves regular consultations with stakeholders in every region, including Zanzibar, to promote a participatory approach to sector regulation.

We believe in a regulatory model that listens, engages, and evolves,” said Dr. Bakari during the meeting.

“Our mission is not only to enforce compliance but also to foster innovation, growth, and sustainable service delivery in the communications sector.”he added

The session provided an open platform for service providers to voice their views, raise operational challenges, and offer suggestions for improvement.

Key issues discussed included content regulation, internet infrastructure, licensing procedures, and the growing need for digital inclusivity in remote areas.

This meeting has given us a rare opportunity to speak directly with the regulator,” said Fatma Issa, a local radio station owner. “We appreciate the transparency and responsiveness shown by TCRA.”he added

In addressing stakeholder concerns, Dr. Bakari emphasized the importance of adhering to broadcasting standards and responsible digital communication, especially in the context of increasing online content.

The rapid growth of technology comes with both opportunities and responsibilities,” Dr. Bakari noted. “As regulators and service providers, we must work together to ensure these opportunities are used to empower communities, not mislead or divide them.”he added

Supporting the discussions was TCRA Lake Zone Office Manager, Engineer Imelda Salumu, who provided technical insights and clarified policy details.

We are committed to continuous engagement,” said Engineer Salumu. “Your feedback directly influences how we improve our operations and refine our regulatory strategies.”he added

TCRA’s approach to collaborative regulation aims to create an enabling environment for the sector to thrive while ensuring that technological advancements benefit all Tanzanians.

Through regular meetings like this, the Authority seeks to strengthen partnerships with stakeholders and pave the way for inclusive, secure, and reliable communication services across the country.
