Tanzania showcases infrastructure progress at expo 2025 Osaka

Osaka, Japan | May 16, 2025 - Tanzania has attracted global attention at the ongoing World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, for its notable achievements in infrastructure development, particularly in the areas of construction, transport, communications, and electricity.

The commendation follows the official opening of Tanzania Infrastructure Week at the Expo by the Tanzanian Ambassador to Japan, His Excellency Baraka Luvanda. 

The themed week is part of a coordinated effort by Tanzania to promote key sectors of its economy to a global audience.

In his remarks, Ambassador Luvanda highlighted the country's infrastructure milestones and called on international investors and stakeholders to explore opportunities in Tanzania’s fast-growing sectors.

“I am pleased to launch this second thematic week, which focuses on showcasing Tanzania’s major accomplishments in road construction, building infrastructure, transport systems, and energy development,” he said. 

This platform, acoording to him, is a chance to engage potential partners, attract investment, and promote our country’s economic vision on a global scale.”

The event is being organized by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) in collaboration with sectoral ministries, government institutions, and the private sector. 

Participating agencies include the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS), Tanzania Building Agency (TBA), and the Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC).

According to TanTrade, the purpose of these weekly thematic programs is to present Tanzania’s investment potential to millions of Expo visitors through exhibitions, dialogue, and institutional engagement. 

The infrastructure segment is intended to position Tanzania as a reliable investment destination with strategic regional advantages.

Ambassador Luvanda emphasized that infrastructure is central to Tanzania’s economic transformation agenda. 

“We hope to secure strategic partnerships and identify market opportunities that will boost our national economy. Our participation here is also about telling our story—about where Tanzania is heading in terms of development and connectivity,” he said.

The World Expo 2025, being held in Osaka’s Kansai region, has drawn participation from over 160 countries. 

Organizers project that more than 28 million visitors will attend the six-month global exhibition, making it one of the largest international events of the decade.

Tanzania’s participation will peak with its National Day Celebration scheduled for May 25, 2025, followed by a high-level Business, Investment, and Tourism Forum on May 26, 2025

The events will feature presentations on trade and investment opportunities, tourism showcases, and cultural performances.

The country is expected to use the forum to engage international investors in sectors such as energy, manufacturing, real estate, transport, agribusiness, and hospitality. 

Government representatives will also highlight reforms aimed at improving the investment climate in Tanzania.

The Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa, is expected to officiate the Expo events as guest of honor, underscoring the importance the government places on international outreach and economic diplomacy.

As the world converges in Osaka, Tanzania is taking bold steps to present itself not only as an investment destination but also as a country determined to chart a modern development path anchored in infrastructure, innovation, and inclusive growth.
