The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with the Government of Finland, particularly in the communications sector, with the goal of promoting technological advancement and the development of modern infrastructure across the country.
This assurance was given by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, during a meeting with Finland’s Deputy Minister for International Trade, Jarno Syrjälä. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s offices in Dar es Salaam.
Ambassador Shelukindo highlighted Tanzania’s recognition of the critical role that the communications sector plays in driving socio-economic development.
He expressed the government's readiness to work closely with Finnish investors, especially leading technology firms such as Nokia, to enhance both the availability and quality of communication services nationwide.
“We firmly believe that strategic collaboration in the communications sector will significantly boost productivity in key areas such as commerce, education, and public service delivery,” said Ambassador Shelukindo.
Deputy Minister Syrjälä, who was accompanied by a delegation of private sector representatives from Finland including officials from Nokia reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to deepening development cooperation with Tanzania.
He stated that Finnish technology companies are prepared to actively participate in the implementation of communication infrastructure projects in the country.
The discussions were also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Defence and National Service, the President's Office for Planning and Investment, and the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC).
These stakeholders expressed their full support for enhanced cooperation with Finland, recognizing the communications sector as a vital engine for sustainable development.
