REA promotes electricity use and connections in Morogoro

The Rural Energy Agency (REA) is continuing its efforts to promote the responsible and sustainable use of electricity among Tanzanians.

This includes public education campaigns on efficient energy usage, encouraging household connections to the power grid, electrical safety awareness, and proper maintenance of electricity infrastructure.

This initiative was highlighted during a recent outreach program in the Morogoro Region, where technical experts from REA, TANESCO, and the project contractor engaged directly with communities to raise awareness of the opportunities provided through ongoing REA projects in the area.

Speaking during a public meeting, Mr. Abdulrazack Mkomi, a Community Development Officer from REA, stated that the government is committed to transforming rural areas, particularly by boosting local economies.

This transformation includes creating employment opportunities, supporting the growth of small-scale industries, and improving essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

To achieve these goals, the government through REA is implementing various rural electrification projects aimed at distributing electricity widely, enabling it to become a powerful tool for socio-economic development.

Mr. Mkomi noted that in order to encourage proper and widespread use of electricity, REA will continue delivering education campaigns door-to-door, from one hamlet to another and village by village, ensuring that all citizens understand how to benefit from access to electricity and use it productively.

Engineer Fidoline Haule, a representative from STEG INTERNATIONAL SERVICE the project's contractor also emphasized the importance of citizens taking advantage of the current electricity connection opportunities while the contractor is still active on-site.

Doing so, he said, helps to avoid challenges such as increased connection costs that could arise once the project is handed over to TANESCO.

Mr. Mkomi further stressed that the government’s focus on expanding electricity access is part of a broader strategy to ensure inclusive, sustainable development and to build a resilient economy through reliable and affordable electricity for all Tanzanians.

Extending electricity infrastructure to even the smallest communities is part of our mission to enhance the well-being and prosperity of all Tanzanians,” he said.

Through expanded access to power, we expect to see the growth of small and medium enterprises, job creation including short-term and long-term employment in trades such as construction, welding, and hairdressing and improvements in healthcare and education services.”he added
