Doha, Qatar— The United Republic of Tanzania and the State of Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening labour and employment cooperation following a high-level meeting held in Doha this week.

Tanzania’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mr. Habibu Awesi Mohamed, met with Ms. Sheikha Najwa bint Abdulrahman Al Thani, Undersecretary of Qatar’s Ministry of Labour, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Qatari capital. Their talks focused on enhancing bilateral labour relations and expanding employment opportunities for Tanzanian nationals.

“I sincerely thank the Government of Qatar and the Ministry of Labour for continuing to provide meaningful employment opportunities to Tanzanians,” said Ambassador Awesi.

“We are particularly grateful for the upcoming recruitment by Mowasalat Karwa, which will see 800 Tanzanian drivers interviewed in Dar es Salaam between May 22 and 25. We kindly request the Ministry’s support in expediting visa issuance for successful candidates,” he explained.

In response, Ms. Sheikha Najwa expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to strengthening its labour partnership with Tanzania.

“We value the productive relationship we have with Tanzania in the field of labour mobility,” said Sheikha Najwa.

The Ministry of Labour is ready to facilitate the visa process for the selected candidates and will continue supporting future employment initiatives involving Tanzanian workers.

She added that the Ministry would soon advise on a suitable date for a technical meeting to review and update the existing bilateral labour agreement between the two nations.

Highlighting the growing collaboration, Sheikha Najwa also announced that Tanzania will host the Labour Mobility Dialogue between the African Union (AU) and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, including Jordan and Lebanon, in December 2025.

“This high-level dialogue is a key platform for sharing experiences and promoting safe, orderly, and fair labour migration,” she noted.

She added that “We are confident that Tanzania’s leadership in this forum will contribute significantly to shaping labour mobility strategies across regions.”

Both parties concluded by reaffirming their commitment to promoting mutual economic development through labour cooperation.

“Our goal is to strengthen the Tanzania–Qatar partnership not just in numbers, but in quality and fairness for the benefit of our citizens,” Ambassador Awesi said.
