A total of 794 graduates from the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) have been awarded various academic degrees during the institution’s 45th graduation ceremony.
The degrees conferred include undergraduate degrees, master's degrees, doctoral degrees (PhDs), and postgraduate diplomas.
The ceremony was officiated by SUA Chancellor, retired Judge Joseph Sinde Warioba, who presented the degrees to the graduates in a formal event marked with pride and academic tradition.
Speaking on behalf of the University Council Chairperson Andrew Massawe, the Vice Chairperson of the Council, Dorothy Mwanyika, called on the graduates to make meaningful use of the education they have acquired.
She emphasized the importance of applying academic knowledge to adapt to and navigate a world that is constantly evolving.
Mwanyika noted that the changing nature of life should not be seen as a barrier but rather as a source of opportunity encouraging graduates to create employment for themselves and others through innovation and resilience.
Reflecting on previous commitments, she highlighted that during the university’s 44th graduation, the Council approved the expansion of practical training programs.
This initiative aims to better prepare students for the job market by enhancing their hands-on skills before graduation.
SUA Vice Chancellor, Professor Raphael Chibunda, also addressed the graduates, acknowledging the rigor and discipline required to earn a degree from the university.
He congratulated them for their hard work and dedication and extended heartfelt gratitude to their parents and guardians for the support they provided throughout the academic journey.
“Graduating from SUA is a significant achievement that reflects not just academic excellence but also determination and resilience,” said Prof. Chibunda.
Of the 794 graduates, 495 were male and 299 were female, with women making up 37.7% of the graduating class.
The event marked yet another milestone for SUA in its mission to produce competent, innovative, and socially responsible professionals ready to contribute to national and global development.
