In a special feature published on May 21, 2025, the Times of India has named Serengeti National Park in Tanzania among the Top 8 Wildlife Safaris to Experience Before You Die, ranking it third globally.
This recognition further cements Serengeti’s reputation as one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring safari destinations in the world.
Topping the list is Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, followed by Kruger National Park in South Africa. Serengeti takes the third spot, ahead of other renowned parks including Chobe National Park (Botswana), Jim Corbett National Park (India), Etosha National Park (Namibia), Pantanal (Brazil), and Yellowstone National Park (USA).
Serengeti’s international acclaim is largely driven by the Great Wildebeest Migration, often referred to as the greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth.
Each year, more than two million animals including wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles embark on a perilous journey from the Serengeti to Kenya’s Maasai Mara and back, in search of greener pastures. This extraordinary migration draws visitors, researchers, and wildlife photographers from around the globe.
For six consecutive years from 2019 to 2024 Serengeti National Park has been named Africa’s Leading National Park by the prestigious World Travel Awards, a recognition of its unmatched biodiversity, conservation efforts, and visitor experience.
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Serengeti is not only a national treasure but a global one, continuing to inspire and attract those with a passion for nature and adventure.
The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) remains steadfast in its mission to conserve and protect the country’s natural heritage.
Through community involvement and partnerships with stakeholders, TANAPA actively promotes sustainable tourism across its 21 national parks, with Serengeti at the forefront.
