RC Serukamba urges TRA to tackle fake receipts and strengthen tax education

By The Respondent Reporter

Iringa Regional Commissioner, Peter Serukamba, has called on the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to intensify efforts in combating the issuance of fake receipts for goods and services.

He emphasized the critical role of properly using Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) to enhance government revenue collection.

Speaking at his office on May 19, 2025, after meeting with a delegation from TRA Headquarters launching a taxpayer education campaign in the region, Serukamba underscored the importance of using education not coercion when engaging with taxpayers.

He encouraged all business owners in Iringa to welcome the outreach efforts by TRA experts and not to close their shops or fear the initiative.

The "Door-to-Door" campaign aims to raise awareness among traders about the importance of voluntary tax compliance, the correct use of EFD machines, and the obligation to issue receipts for every transaction.

It is essential for every business to issue genuine receipts for all sales and pay the taxes they owe. This will enable the government to generate the revenue required to implement key development projects,” Serukamba stated.
