Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania,  Kassim Majaliwa, is set to be the Guest of Honour at the 2024 National Sports Council (Baraza la Michezo la Taifa - BMT) Awards. The prestigious event will be held on June 1, 2025, at the Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam.

Announcing the development during a press briefing held on May 20, 2025, Chairman of the BMT Awards Organizing Committee, Professor Mkumbukwa Mtambo, confirmed that preparations are in their final stages and everything is set for the ceremony.

He highlighted that the awards aim to celebrate and recognize Tanzanian athletes and teams that have made significant achievements on the international stage throughout 2025.

These awards are a platform to honour the dedication, hard work, and outstanding performance of our athletes. They have proudly carried our national flag to the world and brought immense respect to our country,” said Prof. Mtambo.

Now in its third consecutive year, the BMT Awards have grown into a major annual event in Tanzania’s sports calendar. According to Prof. Mtambo, over 700 participants including athletes, sports leaders, media professionals, government officials, and sponsors have attended the awards in previous editions.

We have seen tremendous impact from these awards. They not only motivate athletes but also help raise public awareness of the progress in our sports sector. Athletes now push themselves harder, knowing their efforts are being recognized at a national level,” he added.

The 2025 edition will feature multiple award categories, including Best Male and Female Athlete, Best Young Male and Female Athlete, Best Male and Female Athlete with Disabilities, Best National Team (male and female), Best Club Team of the Year (male and female), Best Coach (male and female), Best School Athlete, Best Referee, Best Sports Journalist, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and the People’s Choice Best Player Award.

Speaking about the People’s Choice category, Prof. Mtambo said, “This category gives the public a direct voice in the process. We want fans to feel involved by voting for the athlete they believe stood out in 2025. They can submit their votes via WhatsApp to +255-68955363.”

He also issued a call to action for companies, government and private institutions, and individuals who support sports development to come forward and partner with BMT.

“We welcome all stakeholders who believe in the power of sports to join us in making this event even more impactful. Together, we can continue to uplift our athletes and build a vibrant sports culture in Tanzania,” said Prof. Mtambo.

The BMT Awards continue to shine a spotlight on sports excellence and national pride, with the 2024 edition expected to be the biggest and most exciting yet.
