President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is expected to update her voter information today, May 17, 2025.
She will do this at the Chamwino Village Government Office, located in Chamwino Ward, Chamwino District, Dodoma Region.
The update is part of the ongoing second phase of the voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking to this newspaper, the Registration Officer for Chamwino and Mvumi constituencies, Mr. Godfrey Mnyamale, said the President's participation is an important example for all citizens.
“We are proud that our President will be among the people updating their voter details. I encourage all residents to come out and join her,” said Mr. Mnyamale.
He also urged people who have not yet registered or updated their details to take this opportunity seriously.
“This is a chance for everyone who missed the first round. Let us use this moment to make sure we are all ready to vote in the general election,” he added.
INEC has announced that the second phase of the Permanent Voter Register update is happening in 11 mainland regions.
These include Dodoma, Manyara, Singida, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Morogoro, Tanga, Dar es Salaam, Coast, Lindi, and Mtwara. The exercise is also ongoing in Pemba and Unguja in Zanzibar.
Chamwino and Mvumi constituencies have a total of 50 registration centers in 36 wards.
The registration process will continue until May 22, 2025. Each center is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“This exercise will last for only seven days. I ask all eligible voters to come early and avoid the last-minute rush,” Mr. Mnyamale noted.
Citizens who register or update their information will be allowed to vote in the 2025 General Election. This includes the election of the President, Members of Parliament, and Councilors.
“This is your right and your power as a citizen. Do not miss it,” Mr. Mnyamale emphasized.
President Samia’s decision to update her information publicly is expected to encourage more people, especially in rural areas, to take part in the process.
