Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Kassim Majaliwa, is expected to be the Guest of Honor at the grand final of the Higher Education and Samia Cup, scheduled for May 18, 2025, at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Originally slated to take place earlier, the final was rescheduled following a government directive to allow Tanzanians to rally behind the national representatives, Simba SC, in their international fixture against RS Berkane.
The men’s final will see the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) take on the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) in what promises to be a thrilling contest for the championship title.
The day’s program will kick off with the women’s final, featuring a clash between KIUT Queens and NIT Queens. In addition, there will be a third-place playoff, providing fans with a full day of exciting football action.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Cornelio Swai, Director of Cornel Investment—the tournament’s organizers—confirmed that preparations are complete and all systems are go for Sunday’s final.
“We’re fully prepared. The teams are ready, and we’re expecting a highly competitive and fair final that will crown a deserving champion,” said Swai.
He explained that the decision to reschedule the final was made to support Tanzanians’ desire to watch and support the country’s representatives on the international stage. “This rescheduling came from the government to give everyone an opportunity—regardless of background—to cheer on Simba SC in their important match,” he added.
The final is expected to attract senior government officials, representatives from private institutions, distinguished guests, and a popular music artist who will entertain the crowd during the event.
Swai called on all stakeholders, students, and residents of Dar es Salaam to attend in large numbers and witness the exceptional talents on display in what is set to be a historic sporting event.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, recently announced that the top four teams in the competition will receive the special “Mama’s Goal” award, recognizing their outstanding performances.
