Mlimani FM journalist Nyamguma Mahamud has emerged the winner in the Clean Cooking Energy category of the Samia Kalamu Awards 2025, earning national recognition for his outstanding contribution to public education on sustainable energy use.
At a high-profile ceremony held in Dar es Salaam and graced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Mahamud was awarded TZS 5 million, a laptop, a modern energy-saving electric stove, and a full year of household electricity units.
The awards, organized by the Tanzania Media Women’s Association (TAMWA) in collaboration with the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), celebrate excellence in journalism under the theme "Uzalendo Ndio Ujanja” (Patriotism is the Real Smartness).
Presenting the prizes on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, praised Mahamud’s role in raising awareness on clean cooking energy.
“We recognize the impact of his reporting in promoting safe and sustainable cooking methods. This award also reflects our support for President Samia’s commitment to advancing clean energy solutions,” Mramba said.
The Clean Cooking Energy award category was introduced to highlight journalism that supports the government’s efforts in encouraging healthier and more efficient household energy use. Mahamud’s work stood out for its depth, clarity, and resonance with the public.
