The Mtwara Regional Volleyball Association has announced a strategic plan to strengthen the sport at the grassroots level by equipping coaches and teachers with modern training techniques.
The initiative aims to enhance the development of young players in schools and guide them toward professional opportunities with clubs competing in various leagues.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, the Association’s Secretary-General, Hussein Kibombwe, said the plan includes engaging stakeholders to establish a special fund dedicated to supporting sports development, with a particular focus on volleyball.
“As part of the initiative, we are targeting schools where volleyball infrastructure already exists. We aim to collaborate with school administrations and stakeholders to improve and revive these facilities,” said Kibombwe.
He noted that some areas that once had volleyball courts have since been repurposed for other activities. The association plans to work with partners to restore and upgrade these spaces to support youth training programs.
Another key aspect of the plan is to conduct orientation seminars for young, emerging players. These sessions will involve experts from various fields, including health, nutrition, anti-corruption, and sports psychology, to provide holistic development for the athletes.
Kibombwe also revealed plans to develop a player database covering both primary and secondary schools.
This will enable continuous monitoring of player progress and help identify opportunities for scholarships and further development.
In addition, the association intends to run public awareness campaigns through media platforms to educate the community about the importance of sports, both socially and individually.
“We believe sports play a critical role in shaping young people and building healthier, more engaged communities,” Kibombwe concluded.
