The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Mohamed Mchengerwa, has called on Information Officers from Regional Secretariats and Local Government Authorities to ensure citizens are consistently informed with accurate and timely updates on government development projects in their respective areas.

Mchengerwa made the remarks today while officially opening a working session for Information Officers from across regions, local authorities, and institutions under PO-RALG.

The session is being held at the Dodoma City Hall in the Government City of Mtumba, Dodoma Region.

"You have a major responsibility to ensure that the public receives accurate information. Do not allow Tanzanians to be misled by false or distorted narratives," stressed  Mchengerwa.

He emphasized that Information Officers are a vital human resource and that by recognizing their roles and improving their performance, they can significantly enhance public access to reliable information.

“If each of you remains patriotic and committed to your duties, the information you release will be trusted and widely accepted by citizens whether through traditional media or the increasingly influential social media platforms,” he added.

Minister Mchengerwa expressed his confidence in the professionalism and competence of Information Officers, noting that they are well-equipped to deliver meaningful, fact-based communication that benefits both citizens and national development.

In addition, the Minister directed that regional and local authority Information Officers should accompany government leaders on field visits.

This, he said, would give them firsthand insight needed to communicate effectively the government’s progress and accomplishments in implementing development initiatives.

He also instructed regional and local government employers to formally appoint acting heads of information units where qualified officers are already in place so they can fully take charge of informing the public about institutional activities and achievements.

He underscored the importance of showcasing development milestones, especially in priority areas championed by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
