Manchester— Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has called for patience as the club continues to await a verdict in the high-profile case involving 115 alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.
The reigning English champions were formally charged in February 2023, with accusations spanning nine seasons from 2009/10 to 2017/18.
The club stands accused of providing inaccurate financial information, failing to fully disclose payments to former manager Roberto Mancini, and misrepresenting player contract details. City has consistently denied all allegations.
The case was heard between September and December 2024 by an independent commission, yet no decision has been made public to date.
“In all honesty, we still don’t have a verdict,” said Al Mubarak in his annual end-of-season interview. “Once a decision is reached, I’ll be able to speak about it. Until then, we must remain patient and allow the process to take its course. I assure you, we will respond the moment we have a ruling.”
If found guilty, Manchester City could face a range of severe penalties, including points deductions, substantial fines, or even relegation to the Championship. The investigation into the club's financial conduct has been ongoing since 2018.
In addition to the alleged financial discrepancies, the club is also accused of failing to cooperate fully with the Premier League’s investigation between 2018 and 2023.
Despite the cloud of controversy, City concluded the 2022/23 season by winning the UEFA Champions League — a historic triumph that secured their place in the newly expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, set to begin next month.
