Legal aid committees and free legal clinic launched in Singida

The Government of Tanzania, through the Office of the Attorney General in collaboration with the Singida Regional Commissioner’s Office, has officially launched Regional and District Legal Advisory Committees along with a free Legal Aid Clinic for the people of Singida.

The launch took place on May 19, 2025, at the Old Bus Stand grounds in Singida Municipality.

Speaking at the event, Singida Regional Commissioner Ms. Halima Dendego, who served as the guest of honor, commended the Attorney General’s Office for selecting Singida as the starting point for the initiative.

She said the program offers a valuable opportunity for citizens to resolve various legal challenges they face.

“I sincerely thank the Office of the Attorney General and the Legal Advisory Committees for granting me the honor to officiate this important launch,” she said.

According to Ms. Dendego, the establishment of the Legal Advisory Committees will help reduce legal disputes involving the government, strengthen the rule of law, and improve collaboration between public lawyers and other stakeholders.

She emphasized that the committees will also help reduce legal complaints from citizens.

“I promise the Attorney General that I will fully oversee the performance of these committees to ensure they deliver real impact in our region,” she added.

Ms. Dendego also urged Singida residents to make full use of the free Legal Aid Clinic, which offers services in key areas such as inheritance, land disputes, marriage issues, and labor rights.

“I call upon our people to turn out in large numbers. The Attorney General’s Office has brought highly skilled legal professionals, and all the services are completely free,” she said.

Attorney General, Mr. Hamza Johari said the launch of the committees and the legal clinic reflects his office’s commitment to bringing legal services closer to the people.

He noted that this is one of the many ways the government is ensuring that citizens access justice and legal guidance at the grassroots level.

“The core purpose of establishing these committees is to simplify legal advisory services for citizens at both regional and district levels,” he explained.

Mr. Johari announced that the Legal Aid Clinic in Singida will run from May 19 to May 25, 2025.

During the period, legal professionals will offer free services to residents.

“We promise to deliver these services at no cost and with high professionalism,” he assured.

The Attorney General also emphasized the importance of legal education in society.

He said the clinic is not just for resolving disputes, but also for guiding citizens on how to access their rights, educating them about the law, and strengthening collaboration between public and private lawyers.

“Through this legal clinic, we expect to build stronger communities, uphold good governance, promote the rule of law, and contribute to national development,” he said.

The free Legal Aid Clinic in Singida will continue until May 25 at the Old Bus Stand grounds, aiming to help residents understand and solve their legal problems without the burden of fees.
