Kaliua. Kaliua District Commissioner Dr. Gerald Mongella has officially received agricultural equipment under the Building a Better Tomorrow (BBT) program, including tractors and harrow planters, to support a new farming initiative set to begin in the district.

Speaking during the handover event, Dr. Mongella announced that a total of 6,500 hectares of land have been reserved for the project, which will be managed by local youth from Kaliua.

The project focuses on commercial cassava farming, identified as a strategic crop for the district due to its favorable climatic conditions.

“As part of the expansion plan, I will add 105 more youth beneficiaries and allocate them an additional 750 hectares of land. This move will not only enhance food security but also create job opportunities and improve the local economy,” said Dr. Mongella.

The selected farmlands are located in the villages of Limbula Siasa and Limbula Kuzoba, both in Kaliua Division.

During the event, Kaliua District Administrative Secretary (DAS), Mr. Reymond Mweli, called on residents to recognize and speak positively about the development efforts being implemented under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

“Let us all appreciate and speak of the good things that President Samia is doing for the country. These initiatives are for the betterment of our lives and our communities,” said Mr. Mweli.

The BBT initiative, launched by the Tanzanian government, aims to empower youth in agriculture by providing them with modern farming tools, training, and access to land, ultimately transforming agriculture into a profitable and sustainable sector.
