Kaliua. In a bid to foster economic growth and improve tax compliance, Kaliua District Commissioner, Dr. Gerald Mongella, convened a key meeting today with business stakeholders, development partners, and trade officers.
The gathering, held at the Kaliua District Council Hall, aimed to explore strategies for boosting the district’s economy while emphasizing the importance of tax payments.
During the meeting, Dr. Mongella spoke at length about the vital role taxes play in the development of both national and local infrastructure.
He urged business owners to fulfill their tax obligations, noting that timely and accurate tax payments contribute to the improvement of public services, including roads, schools, and healthcare facilities.
“Tax compliance is not just a duty but an investment in our collective future,” said Dr. Mongella, highlighting how these contributions directly impact the community's well-being.
Raymond Mweli, representing the District Administrative Office, also took the opportunity to address the audience, calling for more frequent public forums on taxation.
He encouraged the Business Officer to organize sessions that would better educate residents and eliminate misconceptions about the cost and complexity of obtaining business licenses.
“We must remove the fear of licensing, which many see as an unnecessary expense,” Mweli remarked.
The meeting represents a significant step toward promoting dialogue and collaboration between the government and the private sector, ensuring that Kaliua’s economic growth is inclusive and sustainable for all residents.
