The Sectretary General of the Wing (UVCCM), Jokate Mwegelo, has congratulated the Head Coach of the Yanga Princess women's team, as well as the Coordinator of Yanga Princess, Kibwana Matokeo.
These congratulations were given by Jokate during the Awards Night organized by the Yanga club to recognize the contributions of these players throughout the entire season.
She stated that he was congratulating Matokeo for his efforts in promoting women's football, while Edna was being recognized for her commitment to women's football and the preparation of these awards.
"I am a sports enthusiast and a big fan of Yanga. If you see a woman involved in sports, it means she is very strong. I used to play football, and I understand the challenges that come with it. It is a great pleasure to see young women using football to gain opportunities and improve their economic standing. Congratulations to the young women who have dedicated themselves to sports," said Jokate.
On his part, the Vice President of Yanga, Arafat Haji, said it was a great honor to organize the historic awards for the Yanga Princess club, which is a significant achievement for the institution.
Regarding the Head Coach of Yanga Princess, Edna, she mentioned that these awards would help attract sponsors to invest in women's football.
She said that it would help fulfill the dreams of these young women and identify street talents who will succeed through this opportunity.
"My thanks go to the players whom I have been working with after some left last season. I have reached 70% success and we won the Samia Cup in Arusha, where we competed against big teams including JKT Queens, Simba Queens, and Fountain Gate Princess," said Edna.
"I am the only coach who has trained both women's and men's teams, so I am committed. However, my request to the leadership is to continue the effort of finding good players who will help us perform well in the upcoming season," she added.
On the side of Yanga's Information and Communications Manager, Ally Kamwe, he said that the purpose of these awards is to increase the value of Yanga Princess players and football in general.
"This event shows a great way to invest in women's football," he stated.
The winners of the Yanga Princess Gala Awards, including the Best Goal of the Season, were Aregash Kalsa (Ethiopia) for the match between Yanga Princess and Bunda Queens, while the top scorer award went to Jeanine Mukandayisenge (Rwanda), who finished with 12 goals.
The Special Award went to Angela Michael (Nigeria), who had lost her father and requested the Yanga Princess management to allow her to stay and help her team in special games.
The Honorary Award was given to Aisha Masaka (Tanzania), a former Yanga Princess player who is currently playing professional football in the UK for Brighton & Hove Albion.
Meanwhile, the Discipline Award went to Rita Akarekor (Nigeria), and the Best Player of the Season award was given to Igwe Ozoamaka (Nigeria) for this season.
