Dar es Salaam—Cosato Chumi (MP), Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, on May 20, 2025 met with the Ambassador of Italy to Tanzania, Giuseppe Coppola, on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
During their discussions, Ambassador Coppola reaffirmed the Italian Government’s commitment to supporting Tanzania’s development efforts under the visionary leadership of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
As a demonstration of this support, Ambassador Coppola announced that Italy is in the final stages of approving a concessional loan worth USD 281 million to support Phase Four of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project.
He also revealed that Tanzania has been reinstated on the list of countries eligible for financing aimed at enhancing vocational education. Under this program, Tanzania is set to benefit from funding of up to EUR 20 million.
Furthermore, both countries agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation in several key areas, including the blue economy, transport and logistics, information and communication technology, agriculture and livestock, defense and security, as well as trade and investment.
