The Deputy Minister for Energy, Judith Kapinga, has revealed that the government, through the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), is actively implementing various projects to upgrade and repair power transmission and distribution infrastructure in Kibiti District.
This initiative aims to resolve the persistent issue of power outages, which have been caused by the aging and outdated infrastructure.
In a statement made on May 12, 2025, in the National Assembly in Dodoma, Kapinga responded to a question posed by Kibiti MP, Twaha Mpembenwe, who sought to know the government's plans to address the power supply issues in Kibiti Constituency.
“The government is fully committed to resolving the power outage challenges in Kibiti. We have identified the core issue as the old and worn-out infrastructure, which has been unable to meet the increasing demand for electricity,” said Kapinga.
She elaborated on the steps the government is taking to rectify the situation: “We are replacing outdated transformers with those of higher capacity, upgrading wooden electricity poles to more durable concrete poles, and replacing damaged pin insulators. Additionally, we are installing fault auto reclosers on power lines that stretch over 50 kilometers to minimize interruptions caused by faults.”
Kapinga also emphasized that these improvements will significantly enhance the reliability of the power supply in Kibiti.
“By modernizing the power infrastructure, we aim to ensure a steady and uninterrupted electricity supply to the residents of Kibiti. These measures will not only address the current issues but will also lay a foundation for sustainable power distribution in the region for years to come.”
In response, Mpembenwe expressed his appreciation for the government's efforts. “I am pleased to see that the government is taking action to resolve the electricity challenges in our constituency. This is a step in the right direction, and we are hopeful that the improvements will bring about a more reliable power supply for our people,” he said.
The government’s initiatives are expected to greatly reduce the frequency of power outages, providing a more stable and efficient electricity supply to the residents of Kibiti.
