The Deputy Minister of the Office of the President, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Ms. Zainab Katimba, has confirmed that the government will continue to provide loans to women’s groups that meet the required criteria.
These loans are given in line with the laws and guidelines for 2024.
Hon. Katimba was responding to a question from Special Seats Member of Parliament, Ms. Kabula Enock Shitobela.
He asked why there were delays in giving loans to women who met all the necessary requirements, particularly in Mwanza Region.
“The government, through the Mwanza Regional Council, is continuing to provide loans to women’s groups that meet the criteria, following the laws and guidelines of 2024. The loan process is designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and efficiency,” Hon. Katimba said.
She explained that local government authorities handle loan applications at the ward level. This includes evaluating the groups, inspecting projects, reviewing applications, verifying information, and providing training.
Ms. Katimba added that the loan process is completed within 60 days after the last date for receiving applications, which is 30 days after the announcement.
This can cause some delays in loan disbursement.
However, the government’s aim is not to deny women opportunities but to make sure that the funds are given to groups that are ready to carry out projects successfully.
The government recognizes the important role women play in both economic and social development. It continues to provide education, strengthen systems, and improve loan procedures to reduce unnecessary delays.
