Community effort boosts learning at rural School

Matwiga Primary School, located in Chunya District of Mbeya Region, has received a generous donation of 41 desks aimed at addressing the long-standing shortage of classroom furniture.

The contribution is expected to significantly improve the learning environment and boost academic performance among students.

The desks were officially handed over on May 19, 2025, by  Neema Mwakaniemba, a Special Seats Councillor representing Matwiga Ward, in collaboration with her son, Mr. Lusajo Mwakibibi.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at the school grounds, Councillor Mwakaniemba emphasized the importance of community involvement in supporting education.

She explained that the donation was a joint effort between her and her son, with Lusajo producing 31 desks and herself contributing an additional 10, bringing the total to 41.

Our motivation came from learning about the acute shortage of desks at this school. When my son proposed the idea, I fully supported him. Together, we acted on it not just talked about it,” said Hon. Mwakaniemba.

She also encouraged women and youth to give back to their communities by using the resources and blessings they have been given to drive local development.

Lusajo Mwakibibi, who initiated the idea, said his inspiration stemmed from a desire to make a meaningful impact.

Getting the idea is one thing acting on it is what truly counts. I shared it with my mother and wife, and with their support, I began making the desks. To me, what mattered most was identifying people who truly needed help,” said Lusajo.

He added that the cost of the donation was not important compared to the impact it would have on students' education.

Frank Malambughi, Councillor for Matwiga Ward, expressed gratitude to   Mwakaniemba and her son for their meaningful support.

He urged the community in Matwiga and across Tanzania to see this gesture as a powerful example of civic responsibility and compassion.

Also speaking at the event, Matwiga Ward Education Officer, Ms. Monica Kulanga, praised the donation, describing it as an act of spiritual kindness.

These desks will benefit God's angels our students, including orphans and the most vulnerable ensuring they have a dignified and supportive learning environment,” she said.

Mr. Godfrey Kikoti, Head Teacher of Matwiga Primary School, warmly thanked the donors, stating that the desks would greatly reduce overcrowding in classrooms.

Previously, many students were forced to share desks, which hindered concentration and motivation. This donation will not only improve students’ comfort but also increase their interest in learning and make teaching more effective for our staff,” said Mr. Kikoti.

The desks were officially received by the school leadership in the presence of local government officials, party leaders, and community members, making the event a true celebration of partnership between citizens and their leaders.
