Tanzania, Angola deepen ties ahead of President Samia’s state visit

LUANDA, ANGOLA – Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has met with Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Tete António, in Luanda as part of preparations for the upcoming State Visit by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

The high-level discussions focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries, ahead of President Samia’s three-day visit to Angola scheduled for April 7–9, 2025.

“This engagement marks a significant step toward advancing our bilateral relationship,” said Hon. Kombo. “Tanzania and Angola have enjoyed longstanding ties, and President Samia’s visit will open new avenues for cooperation in key areas such as trade, energy, education, and regional security.”

Mr. António welcomed the planned visit and emphasized its importance in solidifying strategic relations between the two nations.
“We are honoured to host President Samia,” he said. “Her visit will reaffirm the deep-rooted friendship between Angola and Tanzania and lay the groundwork for practical collaboration that brings tangible benefits to our citizens.”

The ministers also discussed opportunities for knowledge exchange and experience-sharing in international development, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as infrastructure, capacity building, and peace initiatives.

Both sides underlined the significance of the visit in revitalizing bilateral frameworks and enhancing people-to-people connections. 

They expressed commitment to ensuring that the visit yields concrete outcomes through memoranda of understanding and joint action plans.

The meeting in Luanda highlights President Samia’s continued efforts to elevate Tanzania’s global engagement and foster strong partnerships across the continent.

The State Visit is expected to culminate in the signing of cooperation agreements that will deepen Tanzania–Angola ties and contribute to sustainable development in both countries.
