Sports stakeholders in Tanzania have been called upon to lend their support to the ongoing "ITF/CAT African Junior Circuit U14" tennis tournament, which is currently being held at the Gymkhana courts in Dar es Salaam.

The tournament, featuring 14-and-under youth players from across Africa, is set to conclude on April 13, 2025, with the crowning of its champions.

This appeal was made by Rajab Borry, the Vice Chairman of the Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA), who emphasized the importance of collaboration to ensure the tournament’s success. He noted that the event is showcasing youth from nine African nations.

“We are immensely grateful to the government, particularly the National Sports Council (BMT), and our sponsors who have supported this event. However, there is still a need for additional support. Tanzania has been honored with the rare opportunity to host such a prestigious tournament,” said Borry.

He pointed out that hosting the tournament in Tanzania is especially significant for young players, as many of them lack the opportunity to represent their countries on the international stage due to limited representation. The tournament provides them with a crucial platform to showcase their talent.

Borry also called on parents to encourage their children to visit the courts, watch the games, and learn from the players, which could inspire and develop future tennis stars.

TTA member Hassan Chande highlighted the high level of competition among the players, noting that each participant is striving to perform at their best.

“The players are highly motivated and are working hard to accumulate points from the ITF, positioning themselves at a competitive level,” Chande explained.

“We believe that hosting this tournament gives us a strategic advantage. It opens up the possibility for Tanzania to host more international events in the future,” he added.

Julius Ngokoko, a sponsor from Dew Drop Drink, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to advance sports development in Tanzania.

“Our partnership with TTA is centered around discovering and nurturing young talents who will later represent various national teams. Our sponsorship is not limited to one sport; we are committed to supporting the growth of sports, talent discovery, and the arts of sports in the country,” Ngokoko stated.
