Tabora Regional Administrative Secretary, Dr. John Mboya, has called on public servants to maintain the highest standards of integrity when using the NeST system for procurement processes, in line with the Public Procurement Act of 2023.
He made the remarks on April 8, 2025, while officiating the opening of a training program aimed at building the capacity of government officials in the effective use of the NeST (National e-Procurement System of Tanzania).
“Like other digital platforms, NeST marks a major milestone in the journey towards enhancing the use of technology within the public sector. I urge you to embrace this system as a tool to foster transparency and improve the efficiency of your work,” Dr. Mboya said.
“This system is not merely a solution for procurement processes—it is also a powerful mechanism for ensuring accountability and the proper management of public resources,” he added.
Dr. Mboya emphasized that successful implementation of the NeST system depends on strict adherence to procurement laws and procedures, grounded in integrity and ethical conduct.
“There are a few key principles to uphold. First, you must be honest in how you use the system, ensuring that all procurement steps are legally followed. We all know that the process of selecting contractors or suppliers requires compliance with laid-out procedures, and it is crucial to follow them diligently and avoid any unlawful shortcuts,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the PPRA Central and Western Zone Manager, Engineer Suma Atupele, said the training is designed to empower procurement and supply professionals from procuring entities to use the NeST system effectively, and to introduce them to the latest system upgrades.
“Some of the improvements that led us to organize this training include the enhanced discussion module, which now accommodates a range of objectives; contract review capabilities within the system; and improved mechanisms for handling complaints and appeals,” he explained.
Participants at the training expressed their gratitude to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) for organizing the session, noting that it will help bring positive change to their daily work and institutional performance.
The five-day training program, which runs from April 7 to 11, 2025, is being held at Mwanakiyungi Hall in Tabora.
