Defending champions of the Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball League, JKT, have resumed intensive training sessions as they prepare to defend their crown in the upcoming season.
According to Head Coach Christian Jacob, the team is undergoing rigorous preparations, including fitness, tactical, and gameplay training, aimed at building team chemistry and sharpening individual skills.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Respondent Online, Coach Jacob disclosed that the club has made several strategic signings during the off-season to strengthen the squad, especially after the departure of some key players.
“We have brought in a number of promising players to fill the void left by those who moved on. The new signings include Jimmy Brown, Alfan Maburuki, Baraka Sabibi, and Ronaldo Ronaldo. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Emmanuel Chacha, Felix Lwamba, and Jonas Mushi, who all contributed significantly during their time with the team,” said Jacob.
He noted that the new players have blended well with the rest of the squad and are adapting quickly to the team's playing style.
“The training sessions are going well. The players have shown great commitment and are responding positively to the coaching instructions. Everyone has reported back to camp except for Baraka Sadick, who is still recovering from an injury he sustained last year. We are hopeful that, with God’s grace, he will rejoin the team soon,” Jacob added.
JKT began their pre-season with physical conditioning and have since progressed to tactical drills and simulated match situations to improve decision-making and game speed.
Coach Jacob emphasized the importance of focusing not just on physical readiness but also on mental sharpness.
“We are observing how the players respond to pressure, how well they absorb new tactics, and how they communicate on the court. These details are crucial for any team aiming to retain a championship title,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to the team’s supporters and urged them to continue backing the team as they chase back-to-back glory.
“To all our fans, we appreciate your unwavering support. Keep standing by us, because we are working hard to make you proud once again. Expect great things this coming season,” he concluded.
JKT will be looking to build on last season’s success and prove that they remain the team to beat in the regional league.
