A non-governmental organization, Jamii Bora, in collaboration with key health stakeholders, is set to host the first-ever conference focused on diseases of the intestinal system (Gastroenterology).

Intestinal disorders have become an increasing public health concern, particularly among young children.

The upcoming forum aims to explore innovative, practical, and science-based approaches to managing and preventing these conditions.

The one-day conference is scheduled for May 24, 2025, at the Ummy Mwalimu Conference Hall within the Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dr. Muhidini Mahende, Secretary-General of Jamii Bora, said the event will feature expert-led presentations, interactive panel discussions, and open question-and-answer sessions designed to engage a wide range of health professionals and the public.

“This conference will bring together leading gastroenterologists, healthcare practitioners, medical students, policymakers, and suppliers of pharmaceutical and medical equipment to exchange knowledge and craft sustainable solutions to pressing digestive health challenges,” he said.

This year’s theme is:“Advancing Gastroenterology in East Africa: Innovation, Challenges, and Future Directions.”

The event will serve as a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue among academics, researchers, health regulators, hospital administrators, and representatives from both public and private health institutions.

With the growing burden of gastrointestinal diseases in the region, the conference is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping policy, improving clinical practice, and enhancing public awareness.
