The East African Netball Championship is scheduled to take place from May 10 to 20 this year on the beautiful islands of Zanzibar.
In an interview with The Respondent Online on March 4, 2025, Said Mansab, the Secretary-General of the Zanzibar Netball Association (CHANEZA), shared that they are currently in discussions with the Zanzibar National Sports Council (BMTZ) to explore ways of securing sponsorship for the event.
Mansab stated that the event's preparation requires a budget of 46 million Tanzanian shillings to ensure its success.
"Preparations are already in progress; we have sent out invitation letters to participating teams, and several teams have already confirmed their participation by paying their fees.
We are now awaiting support from the council to help us secure the necessary funds to make this event a reality," said Mansab.
The championship will feature both men's and women's teams, as well as veterans who have previously played the sport, regardless of gender.
"This year's championship will be different from previous ones. We will be involving veterans who have contributed to the sport, as requested by several countries.
Their inclusion highlights their valuable role in the development of netball," he added.
