Steven Wasira, the Vice Chairman of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, has ordered GDM Company to pay the coffee farmers in Rungwe District within 14 days.
This follows complaints from the farmers during a public meeting held on March 18, 2025, at the Tukuyu Township Bus Stand.
The farmers are demanding over TZS 600 million from GDM, saying the delay in payments has caused serious problems for them.
Many of them have struggled to cover their daily expenses and continue their farming work because they have not been paid.
In his speech at the meeting, Wasira made it clear that the government will not allow delays in payments to farmers.
He gave a strong warning to the company, insisting that they must pay the farmers within the next 14 days.
"I am giving GDM 14 days to make sure all farmers are paid what they are owed, without excuses. These farmers have worked hard, and they deserve to be paid on time," Wasira said, as the crowd cheered.
Some of the farmers who spoke at the meeting explained how the payment delay has affected them, with some unable to pay their children’s school fees or buy what they need for everyday life.
