Dar es Salaam – The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has on March 29, 2025 reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility by extending support to vulnerable children in Dar es Salaam. In the spirit of Eid el-Fitr and Easter, TRA provided essential supplies to two institutions: Umra Orphanage Center in Magomeni Mikumi and Mother of Mercy Children’s Home in Madale.

During the donation event, TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda praised the caregivers for their unwavering dedication to the children. He emphasized that supporting orphans and vulnerable children is a shared responsibility, highlighting the government’s efforts to ensure taxpayer contributions reach those in need.

“This initiative is taking place in all 26 regions of the country because we have identified areas where support is needed most. TRA is part of the community, and we understand the challenges these children face. That is why we are here today—to stand with them and make a difference,” Mwenda stated.

Beyond providing necessities, Mwenda personally pledged TZS 4 million to secure health insurance for the children at Umra Orphanage Center. He also took the opportunity to encourage the children to focus on their education, reinforcing the idea that education remains the key to a better future.

At Mother of Mercy Children’s Home, TRA’s Director of Taxpayer Education and Communications, Richard Kayombo, and Deputy Director of Administration and Human Resources, Nahodha Nahodha, led the donation efforts. Kayombo reassured the children that TRA would continue to stand with them, recognizing the significance of supporting vulnerable groups within the community.

Both Rahma Kishumba, founder of Umra Orphanage Center, and Sister Christina Christopher, supervisor of Mother of Mercy Children’s Home, expressed their heartfelt gratitude. They emphasized that the support not only provided much-needed relief but also reassured the children that they are cared for, especially during the holiday season.

TRA’s outreach initiative underscores its dedication beyond taxation, demonstrating that community welfare is integral to national progress. By bridging the gap between taxpayers’ contributions and meaningful impact, TRA continues to reinforce its role as a partner in fostering social development.
