The Secretary-General of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Ambassador Emmanuel Nchimbi, is set to be the chief guest at the Special Annual General Meeting of the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) in Songea Municipality, Ruvuma Region, scheduled for April 3 to 5, 2025.
Speaking to journalists in Morogoro, TEF Chairman Deodatus Balile stated, “This meeting will gather all TEF members to elect new leaders for the forum.
The election process will be free and fair, ensuring that the democratic principles of transparency and fairness are upheld.”
Balile explained that the election will follow Article 7 and Sub-Article 8 of the TEF Constitution, marking the end of the current leadership's four-year term, which began in 2021.
“During this election, members will choose a new Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and seven Executive Committee members,” he added.
He also announced that the application forms for leadership positions will be available starting Monday, March 10, 2025, at the TEF offices on Mtendeni Street, Kisutu, Dar es Salaam.
“The deadline for collecting and submitting forms is March 24, 2025, by 10:00 PM,” Balile noted. “Candidates must submit the forms with a passport-size photo, which will be used on the ballot papers if they are selected.”
The application forms will be available from 3:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays only. “Forms will not be distributed or accepted on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays,” Balile emphasized.
For the positions of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, the application fee is 150,000 Tanzanian Shillings, while the fee for Executive Committee members is 100,000 Tanzanian Shillings. Balile stressed that these fees are non-refundable if a candidate changes their mind.
The elections will be overseen by the Election Committee, led by Frenk Sanga, along with members Angel Mang’enya and Rashid Kejo. Balile stated, “This committee will ensure all election procedures are followed, including verifying candidates’ eligibility.”
