As part of International Women’s Day celebrations today, March 7, 2025, women from the Mining Commission visited Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma.
They covered medical expenses for patients in need, including costs for treatment, surgeries, medicines, and medical supplies. They also distributed various items to encourage and support the patients.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the Director of Licensing at the Mining Commission, Eng. Aziza Swedi, said the visit was part of their tradition to support those in need during Women’s Day celebrations.
"We understand that many people face financial difficulties, and I am grateful for the contributions from the Mining Commission that helped pay for six patients who were struggling to afford treatment," said Eng. Swedi.
She also encouraged other women to offer help where possible. "As caregivers, we are relied upon, and we should continue supporting fellow Tanzanians in need. Giving is an investment for the future, both for them and our families," she added.
The Executive Director of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital, Prof. Abel Makubi, thanked the Mining Commission for their generosity.
"On behalf of the hospital management and staff, we deeply appreciate your visit. Some patients, especially mothers, give birth to children with complications, leading to high medical costs. Your support is a great relief, and we are truly grateful," he said.
The Acting Director of Human Resources at the hospital, Sophia Tangalo, praised the unity shown by the Mining Commission women and encouraged others to take part in helping patients.
The Acting Director of Nursing Services, Bahati Sayi, also thanked them for their support and urged continued efforts in helping those who cannot afford medical care.
One of the beneficiaries, Mariamu Mtuki, expressed her gratitude. "This support has given me hope and made me feel valued in society," she said.
