Dar es Salaam – Women from the Office of the Treasury Registrar visited Tumaini la Maisha Tanzania on March 6, 2025, donating essential supplies to children battling cancer.
The donations included diapers, coconuts for nutrition, a dough-kneading machine, soap, body oil, exercise books, storybooks, ream papers, and pencils.
They also provided kangas, fans, mosquito repellent, brooms, a large speaker, a radio with a microphone, and cash.
Tumaini la Maisha, based in Dar es Salaam, currently cares for 22 children, each accompanied by a caregiver.
Ms. Fatuma Mrope, Acting Director of Administration and Human Resource Management, said the support was driven by compassion.
“These are our children, and we have a duty to bring smiles to their faces,” she said, wishing them a speedy recovery.
Ms. Linah Igogo, Director of Fund Management, urged more Tanzanians to support the children.
“They need our comfort and care, and we should stand with them,” she said.
Ms. Neema Musomba, Director of Management Services, emphasized the importance of helping others.
“Supporting those in need is an act of kindness,” she stated.
Receiving the donations, Ms. Elizabeth Chabiko, Child Program Officer at Tumaini la Maisha, thanked the women for their generosity, noting the center relies on donations to cover medical costs, food, and accommodation.
She added that the center also supports the training of doctors and nurses, who later assist in patient care.
Many children at Tumaini la Maisha suffer from blood, eye, kidney, bone, lymph, and skin cancers.
Ms. Asha Ally, a caregiver from Tanga, shared her struggles, saying her family couldn’t afford treatment costs without help.
She is caring for her younger sister, Fatuma Ally, a Form Four student, and revealed that a single radiation pill costs TZS 2.7 million.
