The Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, is set to officiate the launch of a scholarship fund aimed at supporting women and girls with exceptional talent in volleyball.

The fund, managed under the RiseHer Sports Club & Scholarship initiative, seeks to empower talented female athletes by providing educational opportunities through sports.

Speaking today, March 7, 2025, the Chairperson of RiseHer, Jacline Mgumia, stated that the initiative is designed to nurture and develop female players academically within educational institutions.

"As we approach International Women’s Day celebrations, this initiative is a stepping stone in empowering young girls to advance both in their education and sports careers," she said.

She emphasized that the fund will support students in secondary schools, colleges, and universities who actively participate in sports. She added that RiseHer aligns with government efforts by identifying schools dedicated to nurturing sports talent and focusing support on institutions that prioritize athletic development.

"We also aim to encourage existing sports clubs, particularly in volleyball, to identify and develop players who can form a strong national team capable of representing the country internationally in the coming years," she noted.

On her part, the club's Chief Executive Officer, Julieth Julius Tibanywana, stated that the goal is to promote the fund and ensure financial support reaches women and girls excelling in basketball and volleyball while maintaining strong academic performance.

She highlighted the importance of recognizing and honoring the contributions of former volleyball and basketball players who played at the secondary school and college levels, alongside the current generation of athletes.

Meanwhile, the finals of the volleyball and basketball competitions under the RiseHer Sports Club & Scholarship festival will take place at the University of Dar es Salaam grounds.
