The Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) has announced the selection of 15 female boxers who will represent the country in the upcoming World Championships, scheduled to take place from March 6-17 in Nis, Serbia.
The athletes were chosen following the conclusion of the Samia Women's Boxing Championship, which ended on February 2, 2025, in Dar es Salaam.
BFT Secretary-General, Makore Mashaga, shared that the team is set to begin their training next Monday.
However, the training will initially be conducted in a back-and-forth format as the federation continues to seek funding to set up a joint camp and arrange travel for the competition.
Mashaga explained that only 12 of the 15 boxers will travel to Serbia, with a selection process to determine who will make the final cut.
The selected boxers represent a range of weight categories. For the 48kg category, Veronica Thomas from MMJKT was chosen, while Zawadi Saidi (JKT) and Sarafina Fusi (Ngome) will compete in the 50kg category.
Zulfa Macho (Ngome) was selected for the 52kg category, and Tatian Ezekiel (Zugo) will represent the 54kg category. In the 57kg category, Vumilia Kalinga (Ngome), Zawadi Amos (MMJKT), and Halima Vunjabei (Nakozi) were selected.
The 60kg category will see Doricas Daudi (Kwame) and Zulfa Idd (Zogo) competing, while Najimaa Isike (Taifa) will fight in the 63kg category.
The 66kg category will be represented by Konsolata Laiza from Polisi Arusha, and Salma Michael from Mwanza will compete in the 75kg category.
Finally, Rechael Msingo (Dodoma) and Mariamu Msabila (Kinyogoli) will represent the 81kg category.
The team will be led by Head Coach Samweli Kapungu, assisted by Mzonge Hassani and Muhsin Mohamed. The federation is hopeful that the boxers will perform well and make the country proud at the World Championships.
