The District Commissioner of Same, Kasilda Mgeni, has called on government agencies that collect revenue through services to citizens to find new ways to improve their income. This will help them strengthen their financial resources and reach their revenue targets.
The agencies involved include the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Rural Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA), Same Mwanga Water Authority (SAMWASA), Mkomazi National Park, the Tanzania Forest Services (TFS), Same District Council, and the District Security and Safety Committee.
In a meeting with officials from the Same District Council and heads of government agencies, Kasilda stressed the importance of improving existing revenue sources and creating new ones to meet their monthly and annual revenue goals.
“We need to be creative and find new ways to increase revenue. Without improving these sources, we won’t meet our targets,” Kasilda said.
One issue raised at the meeting was the damage to infrastructure, especially in the water supply system, caused by some dishonest individuals.
The District Commissioner made it clear that the government would take strong action against anyone responsible for destroying infrastructure, as it prevents progress.
“The government will not allow a few individuals to destroy public infrastructure for personal gain. Those responsible will face legal consequences because these projects are meant to benefit the community,” Kasilda emphasized.
Mgeni also instructed the Same District Council Director to make sure that revenue collectors receive regular training on using electronic Point of Sale (POS) machines properly.
This will help prevent financial losses and make revenue collection more transparent and efficient.
The meeting aimed to review the performance of each institution’s revenue collection, identify challenges, and find solutions to ensure that revenue targets are met.
This effort is part of a plan to improve the revenue system, ensure accountability, and help government institutions reach their financial goals.
