PIC Committee applauds TAWA’s progress at Makuyuni Wildlife Park

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Investments (PIC), Augustine Vuma Holle (MP), has expressed satisfaction with the development of tourism infrastructure projects by the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) at Makuyuni Wildlife Park in Monduli District, Arusha Region.

Speaking on February 9, 2025, during a visit to the park, Hon. Augustine commended the progress, emphasizing the government’s decision to reclaim and manage the area.

"The committee is pleased with the ongoing projects. This area was previously under private investors for a long time, but after seeing little progress, the government took it back and entrusted it to TAWA for development," he said.

"We have seen firsthand that investment is being done properly and is already yielding results. Revenue has started increasing, and we believe it will continue to grow.

This proves that the investment is paying off, and TAWA should keep expanding its efforts," he added.

Hon. Augustine also encouraged Tanzanians, especially those in Arusha and nearby regions, to visit the park and explore its unique attractions.

"I urge all Tanzanians to visit Makuyuni Wildlife Park. It is a stunning place—once inside, you won’t want to leave. There are many animals, including giraffes, lions, elephants, and antelopes. It’s a fantastic destination for tourists," he said.

Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dunstan Kitandula, highlighted that since TAWA took over the park, the number of wildlife species has significantly increased.

Revenue has also grown, with TAWA collecting over TZS 200 million in just one year—a strong start.

Hon. Kitandula further noted that with continued investment, the ministry expects TAWA to generate over TZS 20 billion annually, a target the institution is confident it can achieve.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the TAWA Board of Directors, retired Major General Hamis R. Semfuko, thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for entrusting TAWA with the management of Makuyuni Wildlife Park.

Semfuko also emphasized TAWA’s commitment to proper financial management, ensuring all government funds allocated for development projects are used efficiently.

"It is our tradition at TAWA to make sure that every cent allocated by the President is spent as planned, with great innovation," he said.
