Mining boosts revenue in Mbeya Region

By Our Reporter

Industrial minerals, gold, and construction materials have significantly contributed to revenue growth in Mbeya Region, with collections from royalties, levies, and various fees reaching TZS 2.3 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year.

This represents 63% of the annual target and an impressive 108% of the goal set for the first seven months (July 2024 to January 2025).

Speaking on behalf of the Mbeya Regional Mining Officer, Mining Engineer William Kajumla revealed that the region has been tasked with collecting TZS 3.7 billion by the end of the financial year.

He attributed the strong revenue performance to key industries, including industrial minerals, gold, and construction materials, as well as contributions from various infrastructure projects.

He highlighted the role of companies such as TOL Gas Rungwe, a major producer of carbon dioxide, and Mbeya Cement, a significant player in the industrial minerals sector.

Additionally, he noted that gold trading and small-scale mining of construction materials have further boosted revenue generation.

Engineer Kajumla encouraged Tanzanians to seize the abundant investment opportunities in Mbeya Region, particularly in the mining and processing of construction materials, coal extraction in Ngana, Kyela, and Rungwe, as well as gold mining in Mabadaga, Msesule, and Madibira in Mbarali District.

He also pointed to promising opportunities in Lwanjiro, Ileya, Ishinda, and Chikula in Mbeya District, calling on investors to capitalize on the region’s rich mineral resources.
